As you might gather from the name, flowmeters are instruments used to measure linear, nonlinear, mass or volumetric flow rate of a liquid or a gas. I know that sounds pretty scientific, but it doesn’t have to be. They can range from the simplest mechanical variety that utilizes a bucket of known volume, liquid and a stop watch, all the way up to the most sophisticated varieties that use magnets and electronics to conduct their measurements. Deciding which kind to use depends on the nature of the liquid to be measured, whether it is clean, and many other factors too complicated to name here.
