Finally Bought Strings for My Guitar

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I owned my guitar for nearly 6 months before a string needed replacing. Its not because I don’t play very often either, I play nearly every day, but I take very good care of my guitar. When I did have to replace the string, I had to find the best acoustic guitar strings. I take a lot of pride in my music and my guitar, so only the best will do. I’m just lucky that my strings aren’t as expensive as bass strings, I priced them while I was buying my new strings. I had been thinking about getting a bass guitar but I think I’ll wait a little while.

First Seat in the Middle School Band

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

It is not that often that you find a girl who wants to play drums.  That was the case with my daughter who was about to enter the fifth grade.  She had been begging us to get her a drum set but we were reluctant to do so.  We wanted her to play the flute.  We decided to get her a basic set of drums to see if she had any rhythm.  When we realized she did, we went looking for a real set and found these beginner online drum set lessons.  They have been very impressive.  She is now the first seat drummer in her middle school band.

I Dreamed of Playing the Piano

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Like many kids I dreamed of doing something really special. Unlike many kids, my dream was playing the piano. I don’t know why it is so special to me. Maybe it’s the idea of controlling that huge conglomeration of wires, keys, and hammers; of turning it into a music maker. I love feeling the vibration of the music coming through the keys. I even love practicing for hours. If you have a similar dream, don’t give it up. Playing the piano is almost like therapy. Being alone, playing the music that matches my mood, or music to lift my mood, is very special. Playing the piano is easy to begin—find the right tutor, commit yourself to study time, and begin. It will become a part of your life.

How strings vibrate

Friday, September 4th, 2009

In the 19th century the German physicist Hermann von Helmholtz showed that when a violin string is bowed, it vibrates in a way that is completely different from the sinusoidal standing waves that are familiar to all physicists. Although the string vibrates back and forth parallel to the bowing direction, Helmholtz showed that other transverse vibrations of the string could also be excited, made up of straight-line sections. These are separated by “kinks” that travel back and forth along the string and are reflected at the ends. The kinks move with the normal transverse-wave velocity, c = (T/m)1/2, where T is the tension and m the mass per unit length of the string. The bowing action excites a Helmholtz mode with a single kink separating two straight sections.

Proud To Be a Part of Internet Group

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I am on several different groups on the Internet.  Some of them I have made really good friends with over the years, but most of the members are all a lot older then me, actually old enough to be my parents.  But, none the less, I still enjoy talking with them every day.  We share all sorts of things within the group, including the music top hits back when everyone was a kid.  They share links to what they listened to at their age when they were young.  I had heard of most of the songs, but not all.  It’s a fun group that I am proud to be a part of.

Guitar Lessons are a Great way to Worship

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

I have always thought that it seems like music and faith go together. There is something about the creativity that happens when you are playing music that just seems to be from God. That is why I think it is a good idea to get the best worship guitar lessons you can find. Most people will say that they don’t like to play music if they know it will be boring scales. This is a great way to learn how to play music for the sake of worship so you are able to love God at the same time you are learning music.
