One thing you might notice if you look at a DSi console is that they are made with a plastic casing. Making the casing from plastic must be a lot cheaper than metal because I think most people would prefer their console in a metal casing. I could be wrong though and it might be something to do with the metal interfering with the electronics but I doubt it because lots of electronic products have metal casing, such as a minidisc player I used to own. The DSi console is cheaper than that minidisc player I had and I was very proud of it at the time.
